Basically it is the modern age D&D. Don't let him get it or everyone that you know will say he is a dork. Make fun of him and basically be the kid that the football players pick on. Stay away. He will start to spend entire days on the computer. Do both of you a favor and get him a new pair of waders and some gear.

very nerdy game. If he gets into it too bad his only future is working at a comic book store.

That is a picture of a guy who's dad bought him waders too late in life after purchasing the W.O.W. for him. Proof it is not too late, but he has a long way to go. With a lot of counseling appointments and rehab of the limp wrist syndrome, he'll make it.

If you look at some of the reviews from people not in the industry (no agenda) you will find there are some very good aspects to the game. I would caution you to agree to give it a try as long as he will agree to spend an equal amount of time outside or on another activity that gets some use out of his body not just his mind.

Well here he is yesterday, that is a Remington Model Seven in .243, yes he knows what the drop chart is, and how the turrets work. He is 8th grade honor student, but not strait A's. He thinks he has time for some gaming even with swim team and hunting/fishing/school...

I hate the idea of him playin computer games all the time, but I'm leaning toward letting him tool up for it, and try to spend some time learning the stupid thing myself, if I can't catch on, then I'll just outlaw it later !

Sounds to me like he does a lot of positive things. It's about "earning" things, and only you can judge if he's earned it.

You won't ruin a good kid with a video game. He's a good kid already, and it sounds to me like he might be deserving of something like W.O.W.

Lots of dorks hunt and fish, too.

nice work! Your son looks like he gets out and does stuff. thats great! As a middle school teacher I see far too many kids that spend WAY too mush time " gaming" It sounds like he is well rounded. I would't be so concerned then.

ps. what unit??

I did fail to mention that I was the football player in high school. And now I am the dork. And I hunt and fish too. Oddly enough, I have the game sittin on the computer desk right now. But haven't touched it in probably a year or more. Too much fun play Call of Duty 4, talking crap to all the other dork 12-40 year olds. banana

If you are having to reason with yourself why you shouldn't get it and talk yourself out of the why he does deserve it, then you should probably just get it for him. Maybe make him turn a B+ into an A first or something. That way yo u feel better and he earned it.

$60 for the game and $20 a month for the next five years just so he can turn into a pasty, zitty, overweight social retard that stares at a computer screen 24/7 and talks about Orcs & Dragons.

Just say "no."

Get him Call of Duty when the newest one comes out.

I tried it for awhile and it's full of homos, molesters, and losers anyway.

I like Irie's idea. That is what I do nowa days. Call of Duty means you are less of a dork because it imitates killing humans instead of fantastical creatures that don't exist.

Looks like he's growing up well...

Piss on the W.O.W., that stuff is for your typical geek squad. In my opinion, I'd rather catch a kid reading a playboy magazine that have him stuck to a computer screen for all hours of the day.....

WOW is addicting, a guy at work misses phone calls, stays up all night when he has to work the next day, and forgets to pay his power bill from too many hours of that crap.

I'd rather teach my kid sound fiscal responsiblity principles and have him access free porn on the internet instead of wasting his hard earned money on something like Playboy that doesn't even show pink, fer Crist's sake.

Let the Kid get any game he wants. Just check in on him 1/2 hour past bedtime and make sure he isn't still up playing... smile and he'll be fine. Set limits up front on how much he can play. A good side benefit to playing PC games is learning how to performance tune a PC...Trust me, he'll get good at that too.

I allow my kids to play a select few PC games because along the way it helps build computing skills, Unlike Consoles such as X-BOX, Playstation etc.. They are a waste of time IMO.

Seriously in the short time I played War Crack, I was asked several time If I wanted to "hook up" by other players. It's the "Blue Oyster Bar" of online MMORGs. If you want your kid chatting with 50 year old men pretending to be 13 year old girls, go right ahead.

I'm thinking I'll discourage my son from getting inolved with W.O.W., the commitment aspect of it doesn't sit well with me...

Thanks for all the opinions and advice.

Someone suggested Call of Duty or something like that, is this also an ongoing thing, or is there and "end" ?

I have witnessed that game ruin 2 marriages in 1 year. 1 time a gal I know
"hooked up" with a guy she met on that game. The guy was pretty normal but the gal was married. She eventually told her husband and they're trying to work it out.

The other was a 60 year old guy that is totally hooked on that game. He's always talking into the headset. Well, his wife heard him talking all this dirty sex talk to the game. Turns out he was planning on meeting some gal on there.

Not good.

You might let him "try" meth as well - they seem to be equally addictive and have similar results. It looks like you are doing the right thing with him so far - the real world is way more challenging than fantasy.

I did it because they wouldn't get me the video game I asked for.
